Happ on Mac: Install and Connect with an Access Key
Getting Happ running on macOS is straightforward — download the file, allow it to open, paste in a key or subscription link from the Telegram bot, and connect.
What to have ready first
Running Happ on a Mac takes two things at once: the app file and an access key. Without a key, connecting isn't possible even once the app is installed — keys and subscription links come only from the service's Telegram bot.
- A current macOS version with internet access for the download
- A key or subscription link from the Telegram bot
- Five to seven spare minutes
If you don't have a key yet, check the access keys page for how to request one.
Downloading the installer
Grab the Mac build from the download page — the same page also lists every other platform in case you need Happ elsewhere too.
- Go to the Happ for macOS download page
- Pick the file that matches your processor architecture
- Wait for it to finish downloading into your Downloads folder
Installing and opening the app
Open the downloaded file and drag Happ into the Applications folder. On first launch, macOS often shows a warning about an unidentified developer — that's just Gatekeeper doing its job, not a sign anything is wrong with the file.
- Open Applications and double-click Happ to start it
- If a warning pops up, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and allow the app to run
- Launch Happ again — it will open without any warning this time
Entering the key and connecting
Once the app has launched, enter the key or subscription link from the Telegram bot. Pasting the link into the right field is usually all it takes — Happ fills in the server details on its own.
- Copy your key or subscription link from the Telegram bot
- Paste it on the add-key screen in Happ
- Pick a server and tap connect
This step is covered in more detail in the article on setting up Happ for the first time.
When the connection doesn't go through
Sometimes it doesn't work on the first try — an expired key, a shaky internet connection, or a server that's briefly unavailable are the usual culprits.
- Check whether the key has expired
- Try a different server from the list
- Restart the app and connect again

Frequently asked questions
Will Happ install on macOS without an access key?
The app installs fine on its own, but you'll still need a key or subscription link from the Telegram bot to connect to a server.
Why won't macOS let Happ open right away?
That's Gatekeeper's standard behavior for apps distributed outside the App Store; you only grant permission once in System Settings.
Can the same key be used on macOS and other devices?
Yes, keys and subscriptions are usually tied to your account rather than a single device, so they work across platforms.
The app won't open after installing — what should I check?
Check the Privacy & Security permissions on your Mac and try restarting before opening Happ again.
